For anyone on the slower Virgin cable speed, this email just reported on another forum:
"We?re always looking for ways to improve your service where we can.
So from October 1st 2007, we plan to upgrade your broadband speed for free
from up to 4Mb to up to 10Mb* as part of a trial. That means you can
download much faster during the trial ? a standard music track in just 4
seconds, an album in less than a minute or an episode of a TV show in just 5
minutes*.
You can upload much faster as well (we?ll increase your upload speed by 33%
from up to 384kb to up to 512kb), so if you?re uploading photos or sending
emails, you?ll notice it?s quicker too.
It?s all part of a special trial being run in your area for at least the
next two weeks. The good news is, you don?t need to do a thing. It all
happens automatically from October the 1st. If you would like any further
information on getting the most from the trial see
www.virginmedia.com/speedtrial from 1st October.
We hope you continue to enjoy your broadband service from Virgin Media.
Best wishes
The Virgin Media team"
Looks like they're starting the tests for another round of speed upgrades.
