Okay.. need to pick your brains...

160GB HD
512 RAM
Windows XP SP2

Runs usual stuff:

Office Pro XP
MS Money
Norton System Works

Internet Connection Via Wanadoo Wireless 2mb (garbage and I don't think relevant)

Mainly used for quick surf of the net and the rest is business stuff like typing letters and doing accounts... and playing solitaire of course.

The bloody thing has a nasty habit of just locking up.. not in a I'm thinking HD Clicking away can't access something type of way but a deathly silent vacant HD sound no HD access Light.. burger all...

The only way to recover from this Lock Up is to pull the Plug... if you do a "Restart" by holding the old finger on the on button it just locks up on the memory test 1 second into booting.


I haven't really got the time to investigate the problem so any ideas to save me a headache would be appreciated..

Worst case the HD is on its way out...

Moderate case Memory is funny

Easiest case.. know it all son-in-law has burgered it installing all manor of "This is a really useful program"
